Description:

In view of the need to evaluate traffic functionality considering traffic characteristics, overtaking areas and variations in the layout in plan and elevation, it is proposed an update of the behavioral data of the driver in overtaking areas and the characterization of the functionality observed with different measures of performance.

In order to enhance the validity of the conclusions obtained, observational data should be used to calibrate and validate the TWOPAS microsimulation program, thus covering the entire traffic range in the same road configuration and also varying in a controlled manner its overtaking area and features in plan and elevation.

 

In this way, the development of technical criteria will be allowed to adequately include overtaking areas in the geometric design of Spanish conventional roads. In addition, the results will be able to propose a methodology of evaluation of the operation of the traffic with estimators more adjusted to the real behavior of the Spanish drivers.
