Luis Guillermo Loría Salazar


Biography

Graduated in Civil Engineering, University of Costa Rica, 1998. In 2005 he starts his Master’s Degree at the University of Nevada, Reno, in the United States, where he completes his degree in 2007.  From 2011 he holds his doctorate from the same American university.  He is an outstanding consultant as far as design and material analysis are concerned, offering international training courses in numerous American countries.
 
He has worked during a large part of his professional life as a lecturer at School of Civil Engineering of the University of Costa Rica (Statics, pavement laboratory, Engineering statistics), at the University of Nevada in Reno (Building materials and basic pavement design), as a researcher at LanammeUCR in the area of Pavement design (from nanoscale to natural scale), Material Sciences, Technical Specifications and Quality Control Methods for road projects. His research has led to about 80 publications, many of which presented in several internationally renowned congresses and journals.

He was recently appointed as a full member of the AFK20 Committee (Bituminous Materials) and the Scientific Committee AFD40 (Accelerated Pavement Testing), both of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of the United States.

Currently he is a Professor at the University of Costa Rica and General Coordinator of the Transportation Infrastructure Program at the National Laboratory of Materials and Structural Models (LanammeUCR) of the University of Costa Rica, leading a team of 90 professionals. Additionally, he teaches at the University of Costa Rica, at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
