Roberto Olivera
Biography
Dr. Roberto R. Olivera holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (2004) from the University of Waterloo with a specialization in Micromechanics of Undrained Granular Media; a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (1998) from La Universidad de Guadalajara with a specialization in Unsaturated Soil Mechanics; and a Bachelor in Civil Engineering (1995) from the Western Institute of Technology in Guadalajara, Mexico (ITESO).
Prior to his Ph.D., Dr. Olivera was lecturer at ITESO and a Geotechnical Consultant for Germen/EnviroFX Inc. Dr. Olivera held positions as a geotechnical laboratory manager for MEG Consulting (2003-2005) and Golder Associates (2005-2013) and is currently a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for Golder Associates (2013- to present). Since joining Golder Associates in 2005, Dr. Olivera has participated in over a hundred projects providing geotechnical engineering consulting to the oil and gas, mining, offshore, dams and civil infrastructure industries in Canada and internationally.
He also collaborates with municipalities in the lower mainland evaluating the seismic resiliency of their dikes. He collaborates with researchers in Ruhr Universität in Bochum, U.C. Davis, University of Washington, Georgia Tech, University of Western Australia, Dalhousie University, Western University, and the University of Waterloo. Currently, Dr. Olivera is Golder Associates’ Soil Mechanics Technical Community representative for British Colombia. He is a Canadian Citizen, Local Practitioner and a Registered Professional Engineer with EGBC.
